David Duchovny was born on August 7, 1960 in New York City. He is most famous for playing Fox Mulder in the television series The X-Files, for which he won a Golden Globe award for best actor in 1997. Duchovny grew up vacationing in Fire Island with his family. He recounts the summers spending time hanging out on the beaches and running around with his friends touting Radio Flyer wagons. Duchovny went to the prestigious Collegiate Prep School in New York. Some of his former class mates include actors Zach Galligan, Jason Beghe and John F. Kennedy, Jr. He went on to Princeton and received his Master's degree in English Literature from Yale. Duchovny's first acting job was a small role in Working Girl (1988), which was followed by small roles in other movies, including The Rapture (1991), Ruby (1992), and Chaplin (1992). His three guest appearances on HBO's The Larry Sanders Show touted his comic potential. He was able to step away from his X-Files character in Bonnie Hunt's romantic comedy Return to Me (2000), playing a man who falls in love with the woman who received his late wife's heart.

In the past few years, Duchovny has been able to take on various types of roles. He was featured in the comedic films Evolution and Zoolander, both in 2001. Duchovny next appeared in 2002's Full Frontal with Julia Roberts and Catherine Keener. His next big screen turn was as the love interest in Nia Vardalos' sophomore scripting effort Connie and Carla (2004). Duchovny also started his directing career with House of D (2004), which he also starred in. Most recently he is starring opposite Julianne Moore in Bart Freundlich's Trust the Man (2005). In 2005, Duchovny became the second recipient of the Tony RandalL Lifetime Achievement award.
